Positive Psychology, the science of human flourishing, lists six characteristics of a flourishing life, summed up as PERMAV.
Two weeks ago I spoke about Vitality, today I want to touch on R, Relationships.
A new phrase has appeared, “social distancing”. We’ve never heard that one before. Under normal circumstances we would find “social distancing” offensive and distressful. But these are not normal circumstances and we all need to do our part in defeating COVID-19. We’re cancelling our Spring BluestoneSeminar and resisting office visits.
Perhaps one of the benefits of this virus attack will be a new appreciation for just how important relationships are. Positive Psychologist, Professor Christopher Peterson, summed up the secret to well-being with just three letters, OPM, “Other People Matter”.
We are having a shared experience in “social distancing”, and there can be a richness in it. Perhaps in this time of quiet we will discover anew that it’s all about OPM. The rule to life is The Golden Rule, “Do unto others as you would have them do unto you”.
Let’s stay in touch by phone and email. We have email signatures working if you need something done. And please mark July 18 on your calendar for our Summer BluestoneSeminar. We hope to see you then. Take good care. “OPM”, Other People Matter.
