The other day we wrote about increasing positivity with gratitude. Another way is optimism. According to scientific research, gratitude and optimism will increase our happiness…but…they must be based on reality. Global trends shout with a surprising reality:
“The Wall Street Journal” reported, December 10, 2018, in an article, “History Ended in 1945”, “Since 1945 there have been no wars between major powers and few between smaller states. The business cycle has been moderated if not eliminated. The subsequent seven decades saw almost continuous economic growth, lifting nearly half the world’s population into middle class.”
In “Enlightenment Now” author Steven Pinker writes, “The world has made spectacular progress in every single measure of well-being” (we’ll dig into this wonderful book at our winter BluestoneSeminar).
In a 2016 speech Barack Obama said, “If you had to choose a moment in history to be born, you’d choose now.”
Will and Ariel Durant write in “The Lessons of History”, “We are born to a richer heritage, born on a higher level.”
Based on reality, we, more than any people in human history, can rightly approach 2019 filled with gratitude and optimism. Happy New Year
