Ho-Ho-Ho let it snow, tis the season to be jolly. The season of joy is here, the season when we wish each other Merry Christmas and Happy New Year.
Odd, isn’t it, that we designate a season to be happy? Shouldn’t we feel happy all year round?
Barbara Fredrickson, Ph.D. is a scientist studying well-being. Her research confirms that positivity is one of the keystones of health and happiness. She defines positivity just as you would think: good feelings, optimism, happiness, and life satisfaction.
Dr. Fredrickson says that on most days our positive feelings should outnumber our negative feelings by a ratio of three to one. She doesn’t cast negative feelings as unhealthy; they are healthy, they help us manage life’s setbacks. The secret to well-being is to have three happy feelings for every one sad feeling.
How does one experience more positivity? Scientific research points to gratitude. This is a great time of year to put this to the test. Turn this jolly season into a season of gratitude and fully experience a Merry Christmas and Happy New Year.
We’ll start by expressing our gratitude for the generous way you allow us to share our thoughts with you like this, and for the many ways you share your thoughts with us. We are deeply grateful for our Bluestone Community, Happy 3 to 1 Holidays.
